Information for authors on submitting articles to WPR for publication.
World Politics Review publishes original analysis, reporting and opinion on international affairs. Since 2006, we have published the work of thousands of expert contributors around the world. We regularly seek new contributors who wish to have their work read by an international audience of academics, policymakers, businesspeople and others who rely on WPR for thoughtful, non-partisan, insightful analysis of the most pressing international issues of the day.
Referring to the following general guidelines can improve your chances of acceptance:
Keep an eye on what we have recently published. We are unlikely to consider a pitch or submission on a topic we have recently covered.
Look beyond the headlines. We are more likely to consider a pitch or submission on a topic that has not been widely covered elsewhere but which has important national, regional or international implications.
Find new angles of analysis. On a topic that is receiving widespread coverage, we are more likely to consider a pitch or submission that examines important implications and/or highlights connections that have not yet received significant attention.
WPR accepts article pitches and drafts for the below formats:
On our website, we publish daily news, analysis and opinion “briefings” concerning issues of current importance. We especially seek articles that would be of interest and importance for policymakers, both in the U.S. and abroad. Briefings are generally 1,000-1,200 words in length. They should look beyond the basic facts to offer our readers context and insight on current events and policy debates. Briefings can contain opinions but should not be shrill or strident in tone. They should be timely but still have relevance beyond the news cycle.
We periodically publish in-depth that run approximately 2,400 words and take a deeper and more comprehensive look at an issue. Typically, we commission these articles directly from writers and journalists, but compelling unsolicited submissions will be considered.
AI tools may be used for research, data analysis and translation, provided the author verifies the accuracy of the output.
AI tools may not be used to compose any portion of WPR content. All original writing published by WPR will be 100% human-generated.
Should WPR independently determine at any step of the editorial process that all or some of a submitted piece has been written with AI, that will be considered grounds for cancellation of the publication agreement.
We pay an honorarium for each article we publish. Our rate for briefings varies depending on a range of factors including the length of the piece and the work that is needed to get it ready for publication. Rates for feature articles are individually negotiated. In both cases, a rate will be agreed upon prior to acceptance for publication. Payments will generally be made, subject to the provision of required information by the contributor, within one month of publication. Contributors also receive a complimentary six-month subscription to World Politics Review.
Contributors should be aware that World Politics Review is a subscription-based Web site and accessibility of articles to non-subscribers is limited, though WPR works with contributors to accommodate their own access needs. All articles will be published by World Politics Review exclusively.
